Joey's Thanksgiving Gotcha Day Commentathon
“True benevolence or compassion, extends itself through the whole of existence and sympathizes with the distress of every creature capable of sensation.”—Joseph Addison
Younger Joey on the porch of the old house. |
Now on to Joeys story.....We will never forget the Thanksgiving of 2001 cuz that was the day we caught Joey and brought him inside to live with us. He had been getting beat up by some other cat outdoors and came by with yet another injury so Mom tricked him into coming on the enclosed porch on Thanksgiving morning while Pop was making the turkey. Getting him inside was one thing but they spent a good part of the day trying to catch him to keep him confined in a kennel to let him get used to being inside with all of us. He was great at hiding and fitting into tiny places so he was a tough kitty to catch but they did! Read more about his actual Gotcha Day here.

Joey should be the poster boy for rescued feral cats because he is so loving and easy going. We are thankful for his good nature. He is always the first to welcome the newer cats into the house, gets along with everyone and loves to cuddle (next to eating). He gets excited easily when Mom loves him up and bites her hand but not too hard. Being the only male in his group, he is happiest snuggling with any of the lady cats in the house or being squashed between two of them getting groomed. He is small boned but with a droopy tummy that kinda waddles when he walks. When he is happy and playing he skips sideways like a little kitten, tummy bouncing everywhere. He loves sitting on the heater in cold weather or baking in front of it. He is a joy to be with and we love him sooo much.

She will try to get by to visit you this week for sure. Please stop by and read Chrystal's blog, make a donation or just follow her wonderful adventures in rescuing homeless animals. Visit her here at Chrystal's Rescue.
Thanks to all of you for your efforts in helping homeless animals. Wishing you a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!
UPDATE The commenatathon goes until Friday so keep passing it along for more comments! Mom had to work Thanksgiving and will be working all weekend but will visit everyone to thank them the next few days. Thanks to all who have come by. Keep the comments coming!

Moving Mancats on Monday
Uh oh...they kidnapped Woody! |
With cats, the hierarchy is always changing - this one swats that one and they end up being on a lesser rung until they win another round. It was time to rearrange the cats again. A few months back Mom had moved Tabitha from the cat shelter to inside the house and she was settling well. Al is a bit of a bully and was relentlessly stalking her, causing her so much stress she was having UTIs all the time. She has not had any since bringing her inside. Al behaved for a while and then began to hound Woody. Nothing helped the situation so the beans decided it was time to bring him in too.
Woody is a very timid feral. He has bonded with Pop since his workshop is in the cat shelter. Mom left the carrier out there in hopes that Pop could scoop up Woody and bring him in. It finally happened and now Woody is inside with us in a large kennel to let him settle in.
Minnie was the first one to check him out. Woody was very vocal and fascinated with the TV! Next came Chica but she only wanted his food.
Yoko preferred to be on top in the comfy bed - Woody was the least of her concerns. Meanwhile Mamacita and Rosa ran for the farthest room and would not have anything to do with him. Most of the cats showed mild interest and then wandered off or had absolutely no interest in Woody at all. Mom doesn't think he will have any trouble with any of these guys.

Minnie found her spot on the laundry. |
Woody had a wild night howling and trying to get out but today went better. Mom was able to handle him and sit with him so if he seems like he is ready, they will let him have the bedroom and then move out to the house in general. They hated to separate him from all his siblings but this is the best thing unless they can make Al his own place - still a possibility if he doesn't behave!
Hope your Monday is going better than Woody's. Did you have any excitement in your house over the weekend?
