Formerly Feral and Forever Friday


Formerly Feral Sweetpea here with the post for today. Mom got a new DSLR camera for Christmas and can finally take photos of all us black cats indoors without just getting a blob with eyes!  Yay for Mom!


With Valentine's Day coming up, one of our local shelters has declared Feb 1-28 to be Black Tie Affair to help get their black cats adopted. Black cats are always the last to leave a shelter. They want to get the word out that according to animal behaviorist Temple Grandin who wrote the book Animals Make Us Human that black cats tend to have calmer and friendlier dispositions than other cats and are more social.


Today we are featuring Tuxedo cats or Billicats.  Even tho I am not quite one cuz I only have a white spot on my chest I am the spokescat for this week.

Way back months ago, we did a post about Avon from Brother Wolf Animal Rescue and looked today to find out she is still there and still looking for her forever home. We need to do something about this. This is Avon and we will let her tell her story.


I was rescued from an abusive home just days before I gave birth to 6 kittens. I arrived at my foster home with my six 3-day-old kittens and I then took on 2 more kittens who had been abandoned. I was a fantastic mother to these eight kittens. I am just over a year old. I am a VERY sweet gal. I love to cuddle. I talk to get your attention - I just love to be the center of attention now that my babies are on their own.     Sweetpea, you sure are a beautiful black cat. We love black cats ourselves. They do have great personalities. At least the two that live here do.
    I think I will do a post tomorrow about some of the animals from Brother Wolf Rescue. I like to do that on Saturdays.
    Hope it is going to be warmer up there for you this week end.

    Black tie affair -- oh we love it.
    Mom is drawn to tuxies and she said she would love to have more (of course with 5 of us here that is enuff!)
    We hope that this program gets lots and lots of the tuxies their forever homes.

    I just love all black cats, they look like such sleek panthers I'll never understand why people don't want them!!! Poor Avon, she has had a rough start, but what a good mum she was to look after all eight kittens. I hope someone comes forward soon to give her the love she deserves :-)

    I have two black cats that I love to bits! I'm not sure they are any friendlier than others, but they are lovable nonetheless. People who believe the myth that "black cats are evil" are just plain dumb.

    I sure hope and pray that Avon can find her forever home soon.

    Thank you for sharing. I have one domesticated tri colored cat named Zelda. And I am working with a black cat that has been living in my area for 9 months now. I'm not sure if she is feral or a semi-feral cat. It has been a work in progress. I recently started my blog on the chronicles of Ezzabella.

    Sweetpea, you sure did an awesome job with today's post. We are purring and praying for Avon to find her forever home real soon. We have a bunch of black cats at PAWS, too. We really love your shelter's idea of Black Tie Affair -- so creative!
