Formerly Feral and Forever Friday

Hey everybody - Ivy here today to focus on formerly feral and forever homes.  Mom thinks I am about 12 years old.  Even tho I am a mushball lap cat, I have only been indoors for 5 of those years.  Ferals can be tamed and I am proof! I wouldn't let nobody near me when I lived outdoors! Boy have I changed with lots of love.

Did you know us cats are all descended from tabbies?  Experts think that black cats were the first color variety to arise from the ancestral tabby genes.  Since we are all really tabbies, sometimes under our apparent color, the tabby markings show up as ghost markings in kittens ands some adult black cats.

Not all black is the same  - some black cats with age and sun turn to a rust color like me!  And black is not always called black.  Oriental cats are called ebony or in color points, seal.  OK - enough info - let me get back to my nap in the sun and I will turn you over to Tux!

Last week we mentioned that one of our local shelters was featuring black cats for the month of February as part of their Black Tie Affair. Black cats get a bad rep and they don't deserve it! Meet Tux here from Animal Compassion Network in Asheville, NC.

According to the Black Tie Affair promotion Tux qualifies for a collarship where a local business assists with the adoption fee.  Tux is a black and white gentleman from a family of 7 cats. He is about 3 years old. His person lost her home, so Tux is out scouting for a new one. He has been around cats and dogs, and is quite friendly. Young enough to have some play, but old enough to not be a silly kitten, Tux will make a great family pet, and qualifies for the Black Cat Blitz adoption gift!  Call 828 274-3647 or visit Animal Compassion Network online.

(Mom got all the cat info from a book called Cat Biz by Amanda O'Neill)

  1. Greetings,

It is always good to learn when a ferrel cat becomes part of a forever home. I was once ferrel but I have forgotten that life and I am very happy with dad.

    Warmest regards,
    Miss Kitty and Egmont

  9. Ivy, you are one smart cookie! We love little bits of information like this and when we tell our mom, she's going to say, "Where do you get all this news??" We'll tell her, "From that smart Ivy over at Wildcat Woods!" See, she doesn't know we sneak in computer time without her ;)
We are crossing paws for Tux. He is a fine looking young mancat.

  14. One of my black cats has a lot of brown on his long fur too, on the sides mostly. And on his belly, he has some gray. My other black cat is the color of ink, and I don't think his fur will get lighter since he's already 11 and it's always been the same.
