Wild Wednesday - Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week
Sweetpea here today to talk about how great it is to adopt a less adoptable pet. I am black and feral so I would not have much of a chance of being adopted in a shelter. People don't like black, black and white and tortoiseshell cats as much as other cats so we get adopted last, if at all.
Mom saw me living outside with the feral group when I was just a kitten, 12 years ago, and worried about me cuz it was winter and we had lots of snow that year. After one big snowstorm, most of us cats did not come out for days from wherever we were staying warm and when we did show up, Mom was beside herself thinking we had all froze. She caught me that week and brought me inside. Good thing she did - I was covered with some sort of skin mange. I was dirty and tiny. I was also very wild and fought tooth and nail to get away from her and the vet. They had to tranquilize me to examine me and bathe me.
When I got to my indoor home, I scared the other cats - Chica and Yoko by getting right in their faces and wanting to do everything they were doing. I was lonely but they didn't know what to make of me and kept away from me or growled.
It took a few months to get me so I could be handled and petted and got along with other cats but Mom never gave up on me. She is the queen of taming ferals! Now I love to sit next to or on Mom and especially Pop. I will sit next to him on the sofa and just put one paw on him. I love to snuggle and be loved. I am still tiny - only 5 pounds but am just chock full of love and fun. I am so happy Mom took me inside and have had a great life so far!
So please think about opening your home to a black, black and white or tortie cat or even a feral cat like me. We have so much love to give and just want the chance to be your best buddy! Go to Petfinders to adopt a less adoptable pet and you will both win!
We know a special cat named Tarzan who lives nearby that needs a loving home - he is a cow cat and is not even a year old but has been in several shelters already. He is in a foster home now but needs one of his own. Check him out on his page under the header photo above.

Sweetpea, you are proof that "less adoptable" is a myth!
Sweetpea we think you are a wonderful kitty and we think you mum is pretty tops also for trying so hard and helping you to be tame and trusting. We wish people wouldn't be so silly when it comes to black cats and that they could have a fair chance for a loving home just like any other cat!!!
We hopes that Tarzan finds a forever home! My mom took me in too Sweetpea! Though we don't get snow here. I was starving!
OHC - what agreat story you have to tell. You should be the poster kitty for the less adoptable pets. Your mom also works wonders I see.
I always feel sad that black cats don't get adopted. I am proud to have an exceptionally sweet black cat as a member of my home!
We're so glad there are people like your mummy in the world.
What a heartwarming story! Arent you a lucky cat to have a loving mummy and daddy. Rio from Barcelona
Awww ~ such a sweet story! How wonderful to end up in such a loving home! A very special kitty indeed!

Awwww beautiful Sweetpea!! Aren't you just so darling with your little paw on dad's arm?!!?? Me and Charlie are so happy you are one of the lucky "less adoptable" cats who has a loving forever home! We cannot understand why certain cats do not appeal to humans - it's just so crazy! You are all beautiful and deserve families and homes of your own!! Yay! Take care

Sweetpea, you are just so precious. You were very lucky to have been caught and by such wonderful humans. We know every kitty deserves to be loved, to have a forever home, and we're sending purrs that Tarzan finds his soon.
We are so happy your Mom took you in, Sweetpea!
Our Mom doesn't understand why torties and tuxies and all black kitties don't get adopted quickly. She thinks they are the cutest!
Oh Sweet Pea, good job finding that wonderful family. We are so glad you have a good home. You are just too cute too. It really is awful that people won't adopt black cats or cats that are a tiny bit older. Hope all of you have a great day.
Great post!!! (and since your mom is so good, could we send Junior over there??) We have a house panther here too. And one got adopted last night from our local shelter where mom volunteers!!!
Bravo Sweetpea, that was well said my dear! There is no such thing as less adoptable, just less informed humans!
Hi Sweatpea !
Thank´s fur sharing your story about you today !
My mom had a black cat Sixten before I moved in.
Mom and Dad loved him very much !
He was over 17 years old when he travelled to the Rainbow bridge.
Sweetpea
What a wonderful amazing story you have. You know what? Mom is just crazy over the Moon on tuxie cats and black cats. She would be the one who would be swooning over any older black kitty. She loves black and white and if she could she wishes we were all some variation of black and white (not that she would give any of the tabbies up mind you--she just loves black kitties). We think you are adorable and teeny tiny girl.

What happened to all the other ferals that winter?
Sweet Pea, we're so glad your humans weren't short-sighted like some other humans and realized what a great cat you could become! We are happy you have such a good home!!
You are the purrfect spokes-cat, Sweetpea! We're glad your folks were persistent with you and we hope your post will reach out to others. There really shouldn't be any "less adoptables".

Well said, Sweetpea! All of us here are black and white, gray, gray and white, and a tortie. We don't understand at all why our colors are not the most favorite! Our Mumsy did not look at color. She just saw us and invited us to stay and make our home here.
We wish all furry bodies could have their forever love-you home.
I am so glad that you came inside! My mama has a soft spot for black cats and wishes people wouldn't be so ignorant.
