There is a bill in Congress that will affect your rights on the web and will censor all web sites, blogs, etc.  In a nutshell :

SOPA explicitly states that companies will be liable for everything their users post. Sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, Wikipedia, or any sites that allow user generated content CANNOT exist under these laws. Immediately after this bill is passed, you will see the media mafia (MPIAA, RIAA, etc) replacing websites like Wikipedia with commercialized encyclopedia software. Mainstream media outlets will not cover this bill because they are the ones lobbying for it.

If you want to know more - Google created a doc to read and inform - SOPA for Dummies.

WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN AND STOP THIS BILL FROM PASSING!
To help you do this stop by Fight the Wall  or American Censorship and find out how to connect with your Representative!

It seems like the tide was turning against the bills, but now it looks like they're back, so this actions comes more important.

  4. Thanks for the info! My human is calling her congresspeople on Wednesday - she just found out one of her senators co-sponsored PIPA, one she VOTED for, and she is FURIOUS! She will have to take some deep breaths before she picks up the phone!

  5. Thank you for posting this. The SOPA and PIPA bills will do nothing to stop online privacy, but it will put censorship in the hands of the wrong people.

  14. Quite right. Malaysia is chockablock with censors which is why print is dying and online media flourishing. Also, we're reading banned books online. Censorship is silly; everyone should read and see what they want to. If you ask me, most censors are illiterate anyway.

We dropped by to say that Target is much better. Thanks for the purrs!
