Young me, still living in FL doing by Jabba the Hut impersonation! |
As I said in the last post, I have mellowed out a bit in my older years. Since I have been like 17 or 18, I have developed a new habit of going over to Mom when I want something and raising my paw to tap, tap, tap her. If I can't reach her from where I am, I still tap the air which must look like I am waving. Mom doesn't know how this came about but it seems to get me what I want!
Another thing I do is shake all over like a wet dog to dry off. But I am not wet. I do this when Mom gives me extra water with a plastic food syringe. She squirts water into the side of my mouth behind my fang and I swallow it. When I am done I stop and Mom says do your shaky and I shake all over.
A couple of you asked me yesterday what was the secret to my long life. I talked this over with Mom and the only thing we can say is switching over to no vaccines and high quality food. When we lived in Florida, both Yoko and I went to a regular vet, got all the vaccines and boosters yearly and ate kibble - Purina or Fancy Feast.
When we moved here 14 years ago, Mom found a holistic vet who did not believe in vaccines so we never got another one! The vet also told Mom to feed us good high quality food - it took Mom a while to completely switch over for all of us but she did.
Now, I still have chronic renal failure which I have had for 6 years and Yoko has high normal thyroid and kidney values but we have been treated all along with homeopathy, herbs and other natural treatments, no drugs. This vet got Mom to stop using only western medicine for herself and she uses all natural things on her and Pop too.
It may have to do with good genes too. Many of the feral cats inbreed with their own and it caused physical problems. We don't really know where Yoko and I came from but we were pretty healthy as youngsters.
We have a big bash planned on Sunday for my official birthday so do plan on stopping by. Our good friends Derry of Fuzzy Tales and Sparkle cat also are celebrating their birthdays that day too. Make the rounds and be prepared to PARTAY!!!!
In my old age I still like whapping a paper bag for fun and napping it it after. |
For today's noms we have beef rolled in cream cheese - one of my favorites. When Mom has cream cheese on toast I run over and beg for some. She sets some aside on her plate to dip her finger in and let me lick. MMMM MMM good. Even when she stopped eating cow's milk cheese, I like goat chevre like that too. To me cheese is cheese!
To go along with the noms - a passel of nip toys of every kind. So enjoy and eat up. Did you all like the mice yesterday!!!! That was fun.
21!! wow!! That's so great! Happy happy birthday! I hope you get to party all week. Enjoy the week!
ReplyDeleteMy first cat, Max used to use his paw to ever so gently tap me to get my attention so he could then tell me what he wanted. It was the sweetest thing!
Party Party!!
Great celebration Chica! Those cream cheese rolls look mouth-watering
ReplyDeleteWow, there is going to be a LOT of partying going on Sunday! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, my human has slacked off a lot on getting us vaccines for many years and we eat all canned food (Binga and Boodie get grain free, I get food that is still high protein with no meat by-products), and we are pretty healthy - and after Sunday, we will all be over 10 years old!
Save a birthday cuddle for ME please!
ReplyDeleteOH Chica!!! We adore your tap tap tapping!! How adorable!! Take care

We would love some beef and cream cheese parcels to taste Chica - we think they sound very delish. We think you are an amazing lady cat.
ReplyDeleteHappy 21st Birthday.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Oh my! 21 is a good age. My kitty MoMo has just passed away so I have no blog as such to carry on but I still visit her furriends. Have a happy birthday and enjoy your golden years.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite the party week, Chica! And fitting for such an Elder ladycat. :-)
ReplyDeleteOur mom would almost give her eye teeth to find a decent grain-free food that we would actually eat and that wouldn't given Nicki problems. If it's supposed to be so good for us, why doesn't it smell tempting? And don't even think about giving us stuff with veggies or fruit in it! Bleh!
What a great pawty feast you have prepared for your guests again. It sounds like you are having a fantastic 21st birthday.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in NJ we had a wonderful holistic vet. We stopped getting vacines at that point and switched to a better quality food. Mom hopes that will help keep us around for along time. We just found that our old vet has moved to Florida, but on the other coast. The one that was here is no longer practicing :(

Oh, my! Such yummie treats :) Jenna enjoyed the mousies yesterday!
ReplyDeleteWe hope your human takes lots of pictures of the big day on Sunday! Happy Birthday, Chica!
We are enjoying your birthday week celebration very much, Chica! Those beef and cheese noms sound delicious, by the way. See you at your big bash on Sunday (and at Derry's and Sparkle's parties, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI am trying very hard to move the boys to a high quality food. It has been hard to find somehting they all like but I've managed to get a wet that they all eat, now working on a dry food too. They still eat kibble that is full of corn and fillers...ugh! I hope the will live as long as you have Chica :-)
ReplyDeleteWEll Chica, we sure are glad you stayed with us all this time. Wow, look at that great food. We are going to go dig in for sure. Yummy. Happy Birthday Chica
ReplyDeleteMe has to get my rabies shot, cuz me travels with Mommy and Daddy and wes goes over the border and they insists, but me don't get other shots. Me still feels excellent and me is getting ready to PAWTY with all the birthdays this weekend! It will be a fabulishious time!

You are truly a beautiful lady Miss Chica!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! My peeps stopped doing the vaccines last year too. You gave TW an idea about shooting water into my mouth, since I don't drink any. TW believes in acupuncture and holistic stuff too. I'm planning on living until I'm 32!
ReplyDeleteYou always have such great things to eat, Chica! My 3-Ds are all going to gain weight after partying with you all week.
ReplyDeleteI have been coming to the same conclusion about not getting any more vaccines. I just hope that my kitties haven't already been damaged by what they've had to-date.
I'm so happy that you are in such good health and still enjoying life at your age. You truly are a marvel, Chica! Keep on truckin', girl!

ReplyDeleteMom has tried and tried to switch over to GOOD food, but every time she does Abby gets sick. She got so sick this last time she stopped eating and the Vet diagnosed her with IBD (she doesn't have IBD, it was the food). So she went back to feeding her Meow Mix which is what she loves and she is fine. After being so scared by that episode Mom unfortunately said that's it for Abby, she can't risk upsetting Abby's system again, but she knows how much better it would be if she could switch her to a better food. We think your Mom was wise to switch you to a holistic vet (there are NONE in our area) and good food.
Happy purrday Chica.
