Good news - our sweet Yoko is all better from her UTI - the new vet was able to get her over it and so far she has not shown any signs of it returning. We have been going thru this for months.
He tried Baytril since she seems immune to the penicillin based antibiotics. He also gave us something called d-mannose that helps get rid of bacteria in the urinary tract without causing any other issues - it is a natural sugar but is not absorbed into the body but it is expelled. The bacteria is attracted to it and latches on to the d-mannose and is flushed out. He is also giving her a maintenance dose now along with some high nutrient algae to boost her immune system.
So today we are thankful for Yoko's health at her advanced age of 20 and for all the wonderful Gotcha Day wishes Ivy received last week1
We are so pleased that Yoko is feeling much better since her vet visit. She is such a lovely lady.

ReplyDeleteLove those little old ladies! We're so glad Yoko is in the clear. I used cranberry for my older ones--once they get to that age and beyond my vet and I thought they might not be able to totally express all their urine and an infection develops. Cranberry is known to cleanse the bladder and coat the inside. I got gelcaps, very easy to swallow.
